Due to the necessity for communication on many levels, refilling medications through pharmacies can be a frustrating experience for both patients and staff. It is of the utmost concern to us that we refill your medications in a timely manner.
It is our policy to give enough medication and refills until your next appointment. It is the patient's responsibility to remain current with their appointment schedule in order to obtain enough medication on time. To minimize errors and for your safety, we discourage medication refills in between scheduled appointments.
If you must obtain a medication refill before your next appointment, we suggest that you first call your pharmacy to confirm that there are no remaining refills on your prescription(s) before emailing the office. We suggest that you contact the pharmacy at least three business days before you expect to run out of medications. Dr. Heidenfelder will refill your medication only enough to cover until your next appointment.
We expect patients to have a standing appointment in the near future before providing medication refills.
We do not prescribe controlled medications without evaluating a patient in the office or via video appoitment.
*Dr. Heidenfelder does not prescribe any controlled medications at the Initial Evaluation without all the requested documentation and records. All previous controlled medication prescriptions need to verified with your previous pharmacy and previous physician prior to receiving a prescription.
Patients are encouraged to bring old medication bottles to help verify previous prescriptions more efficiently.
*If you are prescribed a controlled medication please keep the above policy in mind.
*If your medications have been lost or stolen and you need an early refill we request patients to file a police report as documentation of the loss/theft.
Dr. Heidenfelder reserves the right to refuse refilling any medication if he believes it is clinically necessary to evaluate the patient before prescribing medication.
Additionally, Dr. Heidenfelder reserves the right to refuse further treatment of any kind for any patients who are suspected of medication misuse or abuse.
